New Delhi: On Monday evening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assessed the aftermath of a devastating explosion near the Red Fort that resulted in the deaths of at least eight individuals. He also communicated with Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the incident, according to government sources.
The explosion, described as high-intensity, occurred near the Red Fort metro station, causing significant damage to multiple vehicles, officials reported.
Sources indicate that PM Modi has been briefed on the situation and has received updates from Home Minister Shah.
The blast injured twenty-four people, who were promptly transported to LNJP hospital, located a few kilometers away.
Footage released by the Chandni Chowk Traders’ Association illustrated the blast's severity, with one video showing a body on a vehicle and another depicting dismembered remains scattered around the site, as reported by eyewitnesses.
In response to the incident, a high alert has been issued across Delhi. The Delhi Fire Services dispatched ten fire engines to the scene, while police secured the area. Officials confirmed that the fire was extinguished by 7:29 PM.
"The fire destroyed six cars, two e-rickshaws, and one autorickshaw," stated a fire department representative.
A team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrived at the location to investigate further.
